Put Your Character House on the Inventory or Register

If you own a character house that may have architectural or historic significance, consider putting it on City’s Inventory or even on its Register of Municipal Historic Resources.  Houses on the Register are protected from demolition and are eligible for a grant to cover 50% of restoration costs, to a maximum of $100,000, as well as for significant grants towards maintenance every 5 years moving forwards.

Save Garneau believes that having character houses on the Municipal Inventory and Register is a key component to preserving some of Garneau’s historic blocks.  Planners, developers, and city council use the number of houses in a given area that are part of this program as a benchmark to gauge residents’ interest in the historic significance of their block and to inform decisions of what developments are allowed nearby. Help us save an important part of Edmonton’s history by preserving your own character home.
